Hi everyone,
I’ve run into an issue when trying to connect to a server on certain maps (for example, MH-AD_Concrete_LAB_VO). I consistently get the following error:
“Connection failed. Can’t find Palette in file Palette ShaneSky.Palette2.”
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
I’m also wondering if this could be related to the fact that I’m using a macOS client. Has anyone experienced something similar on Mac or Win, or is this more likely an issue with missing or mismatched map files?
I’m using the original game resources, with some sort of HD Texture pack. and if I understand correctly, the problematic file is located here:
~/Library/Application Support/Unreal Tournament/Textures/ShaneSky.utx
The file size is: 103 499 802 B (103,5 MB)
MD5 hash: dc00d218a00697a3b8de78d22c6b0490
SHA-256: 9c3d9245c760b0236f29ce5b377808a6fe690ed0e52e2c47ee082fa29b774630
Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Can't find Pallete for some maps
A web search for "ShaneSky.Palette2" lead me to OldUnreal forum (a post from 2011
)

Another search hit: https://sites.google.com/view/unrealhdt ... d-textures
Sadly none of the later listed URL works anymore.ShaneChurch package
ShaneChurch contains a fix for the missing Palette2. For whatever reason Palette2 is being ditched while making the package conform the reduced nettextures. I tried several things, but was left with one solution untill i better ucc tool is build. The solution is to remove the SMoon2 S3TC texture that makes use of Palette2. There are two the same moons in this package, one that has the normal moon color and the purple version of that one. Its the purple version that has been removed, and presumably the less used one. Still a pitty..........

Re: Can't find Pallete for some maps
ShaneSky.utx
The original file has 13 low res textures
and size 0,6 Mb.
Try launch the Unreal Editor and check your ShaneSky.utx.
1. UnrealTournament \System \ UnrealEd
2. then in the UnrealEd navigate: View \ Texture Browser
3. then in the Texture Browser navigate: File \ Open \ ShaneSky.utx
( the texture pack is located in the: Unreal Tournament/Textures/ShaneSky.utx)
4. then create screenshot of Texture Browser with all loaded textures.
P.S.
MH-AD_Concrete_LAB_V0 is using just a single texture from ShaneSky.utx called “pantileb”.
Maybe a good idea will be to drop package ShaneSky.utx and replace it by something else.

Re: Can't find Pallete for some maps
Thank you for your suggestions.
Unfortunately, due to using macOS and having a limited amount of mobile data at the moment, the easiest solution for me was to download UTX-Viewer and run it via CrossOver (Wine wrapper).
The Unreal Archive also helped me a lot — I was able to find the original ShaneSky.utx file (570.8 KB) inside one of the map packages.
I’m attaching screenshots of my current HD file and the downloaded original. I’ll try replacing ShaneSky.utx and hope the issue won’t occur again
Later, when I have stable Wi-Fi, I’ll also try downloading different packs from here and compare them as well.
